The Thoughtful Apamea (Apamea cogitata) is a moth of the Noctuidae family. It is found from Newfoundland to British Columbia and the Northwest Territories, plus adjacent parts of United States, south in the west to California.
It was formerly considered to be a subspecies of Apamea dubitans.
The wingspan is about 40 mm. Adults are on wing from June to September depending on the location. There is one generation per year.
The larvae probably feed on a various grasses.
